Crystal Hill, President of CUPE 4070, representing almost 4,000 cabin crew members at the Westjet group of companies, issued the following statement regarding WestJet’s bid to acquire Sunwing Airlines.

“WestJet employees have just been informed that pending regulatory approval, WestJet has signed an agreement to acquire Sunwing.

At this time, we do not have many details, and there are many aspects of this deal that have to be worked out over time.

We hope the deal means expansion and stability for our company. We also acknowledge that this news creates uncertainty and anxiety, in particular for Sunwing employees.

Our first and primary concern is the impact this will have on the collective agreement rights of employees at both companies. We will approach this deal with that frame in mind. All changes to the status quo must be done through the processes outlined in our collective agreements.”
