Our National Executive Board met in Ottawa from September 9-11, 2025. These are the highlights of their deliberations and decisions.

In Memory

The National Executive Board observed a minute of silence to reflect upon the loss of members of our CUPE family. Remembered were: Marivic Sigua, CUPE 1475; Shelley Thorton, CUPE 417; Kulbir Kalia, CUPE 3338; Dale Laluk, CUPE 3799; Nabil El-Ahmed, CUPE 5167; Glenn Ross, CUPE 1975 (retired); Debbie Hubick, CUPE 5999 (retired); Bruno Silano, CUPE 1000 (retired); Linda LeGroulx, retired staff; Doreen Beath, retired staff; Robert Gower, retired staff; Robert Nunney, retired staff; Myrna Weiss, retired staff; Elie Martel, former NDP MPP.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the National Executive Board participated in the unveiling of a new piece by artist Claude Latour in the lobby of CUPE’s national office. The artwork honours the traditional, unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg Nation, where CUPE’s national office is located.

New Member of the National Executive Board 

Following the resignation from the Board in June of Nan McFadgen, and in keeping with the National Constitution, Alan Linkletter was duly elected and sworn in as the new Regional Vice-President representing Nova Scotia. The Board welcomed Alan and wished Nan well in her retirement. 

2025 National Convention

The National Executive Board discussed preparations for the upcoming National Convention, being held October 6-10 in Toronto, reviewed the convention program, and approved a draft of the Strategic Directions to be debated and adopted by convention delegates. 

Financial Support 

The National Executive Board approved 32 cost-shared campaign requests totaling $1,818,712.52, two requests for legal and arbitration support totaling $47,000.00, and two requests for legal support through the strike fund to preserve collective bargaining rights totalling $175,000.00.
