Challenging Anti-Asian Racism:
Anti-Asian racism has been a reality in Canada since the first workers of Asian descent arrived in 1788. In this workshop we will uncover some of that history, including Asian Canadians’ contributions to the labour movement. We will identify what anti-Asian racism looks like today and discuss what we can do about it as union activists.
Building Bridges: Confronting Islamophobia/ Anti-Muslim Racism
Muslim workers in Canada are more likely to experience discrimination and barriers at work, including hiring bias and unequal treatment on the job. In this workshop, we will explore how Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism have shaped these experiences over time and how they continue to impact Muslim workers today. Together, we will focus on taking action—challenging discrimination, supporting Muslim co-workers, and building stronger worker power through more inclusive unions.
