MIRAMICHI - The Red Cross Home Support Workers, CUPE Local 4598, in Miramichi went on strike this morning joining on the picket line their co-workers from Bathurst, Campbellton and the Acadian Peninsula.

Twenty-five Home Support Workers worked for the Red Cross in Miramichi.

Last week, negotiations between the Home Support Workers and the Red Cross weren’t successful. We want better wages and benefits for the home support workers. In New Brunswick, a 10-year experienced worker receives only $8.29 an hour with no guaranteed hours and no benefits”, said Louise Thibodeau, CUPE Representative.

The Red Cross Home Support Workers have their strike headquarter at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Campbell Street in Miramichi.

CUPE Local 4598 represents 300 Home Support Workers from Richibouctou, Miramichi, Acadian Peninsula, Bathurst, Campbellton, Edmundston and Grand Falls. They have been without a collective agreement for more than 2 years.
