Alberta premier Ralph Klein continues his drive to privatize, calling on Albertans to do the most un-Canadian thing: challenge the Canada Health Act. The Opposition is asking Albertans to ignore their premier and be un-Albertan.

Over the past year, the Klein government has stepped up its effort to derail Albertas health care system and drastically increase private participation. Just last month, it set up a five-step plan to generate a blueprint for a new health system. Klein is also planning a massive communications campaign to promote a radical shift to private health care and he has brought back Dr. No Steve West to steer the province toward a two-tier health care system.

Kleins plan to scale down Medicare and let private corporations deliver the rest is meeting with opposition. Unions and health coalitions are organizing to challenge Kleins narrow view of sustainability, which the premier cites as justification for speeding up privatization.
