CUPE 2188, which represents inside workers inside workers in the Quebec town of Lachute, signed their new collective agreement on March 20, 2025, following a vote that received 91% support.
Employees will be receiving wage hikes totalling 18% for the period from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2028. In addition, the employer agreed to reevaluate several jobs within 60 days of the date the collective agreement was signed, which will ensure that the incumbents of these positions are being paid equitably.
“Negotiations were difficult for the union members, in general, and especially for the bargaining committee. The parties will have their work cut out for them to re-establish a climate of trust. We believe the signing of this new contract is a step in the right direction, and we’re nonetheless proud of the results we achieved,” said union representative Stéphane Paré.
