Hugo Tessier has nearly 30 years of experience as a firefighter with the Joliette fire department and has held several roles within the Syndicat des pompiers et pompières du Québec (SPQ).
A graduate of Collège Montmorency and the Université de Montréal, he has completed extensive training in union activism and fire prevention.
He began his union involvement at his local, taking on various responsibilities before being elected vice-president of the SPQ’s board of directors in 2000. He represented his union on several committees at the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ) and also facilitated workshops for fellow members. In 2002, he was hired as a union representative with the SPQ, a role he held for 20 years. After the SPQ joined CUPE in 2022, he was appointed vice-president of CUPE Quebec at the 2023 regional convention.
In 2025, he joined CUPE’s National Executive Board as regional vice-president.
