The Quebec Federation of Labour (FTQ) will be tracking candidates from the various federal parties during the election campaign to promote four key issues: universal public drug insurance, a green economy, true tax fairness, and an effective employment insurance program.

“We chose to target these issues because parties taking a position on them will significantly improve the lives of citizens in Trois-Rivières and Berthier−Maskinongé,” explained Denis Bolduc, vice-president of the FTQ and president of CUPE-Québec.

Hundreds of signs sporting the theme “Le gros bon sens” (Just common sense) and making reference to these issues will be deployed in both ridings starting today.

“We need drug insurance, as it’s just common sense! The cost of drugs in Quebec is among the highest of OECD countries. We demand that the Canada Health Act be amended to include drugs. Canada is the lone OECD country with a public health care system that doesn’t include them,” he added.

“We are living in a climate crisis. We must deal with it collectively, not each of us on our own. It’s just common sense! The Web giants are not paying their share of taxes. They must be taxed fairly, and the employment insurance program must be there for people who need it. Once again, it’s just common sense,” said Denis Bolduc.

The FTQ has also targeted other ridings, which will be revealed in the coming weeks.
