WORKSHOPS
The heart of the Building Strong Locals Conference is five half-day workshops where CUPE members will share their ideas for building strong, inclusive, accessible and representative local unions. Building on feedback from our Building Strong Locals National Leadership Survey, we have created workshops that will help us strengthen our locals.
Building Strength at the Bargaining Table
Explore strategies to build bargaining strength and foster internal solidarity to win gains for everyone, in the face of an increasingly difficult bargaining climate that includes: government austerity agendas, increased demands for concessions and two-tier provisions, and attacks on job security.
Building Strong Local Infrastructure
Learn best practices for sustaining a strong and inclusive CUPE local. Discuss sound techniques to administer your local’s finances and bylaws. Review solid examples of proven practices.
Building Our Strength by Engaging Our Members
Learn the tools, techniques and technology to build strength and solidarity for successful mobilization. Explore examples of successful member engagement, and discuss the benefits of increasing participation in and support for your local union.
Building Our Strength with Community Allies
Build your bargaining power, strengthen membership engagement, and find new allies through solidarity work in your communities.
Building Strong Leaders for Strong Locals
Identify tools to recruit, mentor and train dynamic leaders reflective of the diversity of our members. Learn about progressive leadership styles and techniques and how to use them to create a stronger local union.
