TRURO – CUPE Nova Scotia says a ruling from Bill 1 Mediator James Dorsey has at least left the door open to hear from them on how he can make the legislation comply with the Canadian constitution.
CUPE Acute Care Co-ordinator Wayne Thomas says, “In its motion to Mr. Dorsey, CUPE asked him to hear arguments proposing ways he could interpret Bill 1 to ensure it is constitutionally compliant. “Mr. Dorsey has informed us that he is willing to hear submissions from our lawyers concerning our motion,” says Thomas.
CUPE Nova Scotia President Danny Cavanagh says, “This is encouraging news for our health care members. The mediator has left the door open for us and we are certainly going to take full advantage of that. “He has asked for our legal submission by November 27 and our lawyers are working on it now,” says Cavanagh.
