The Airline Division of CUPE is sending its solidarity and support to members and communities facing the threat of forest fires in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories.
The City of Yellowknife has been under a full evacuation order, while communities across British Columbia are under serious threat from raging wildfires as well.
“Some of our flight attendants in places like Yellowknife, Kelowna and Kamloops are operating evacuation flights right now while their own homes are under threat,” said Airline Division President Wesley Lesosky. “This forest fire season has been unlike anything we’ve ever seen before, but as always, our members are stepping up and serving their communities. We want them to know we have their backs too.”
“On behalf of our 18,500 airline members across the country, I want to send courage and solidarity to all of our members. Please reach out to your union if you need help during this incredibly challenging moment.”
The Airline Division also sends its thanks and appreciation to all of the first responders and community volunteers who are keeping communities safe during this unprecedented crisis.
