CUPE congratulates CUPE 1294 member and National Persons with Disabilities Committee Co-Chair Sylvain Le May on winning this year’s Carol McGregor Disability Rights Award.
The award is presented each year by the Canadian Labour Congress to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3). It recognizes the contributions of a Canadian union member in advancing disability rights in the workplace and beyond.
A long-time advocate, Sylvain has led the fight in his workplace, the University of Quebec at Montreal, and across the post-secondary sector to remove barriers for people with disabilities. His efforts have led to permanent policy changes at his workplace, increasing accessibility for workers and students with disabilities.
CUPE supports workers with disabilities through advocacy and bargaining. CUPE encourages all members to use our resources to advance disability justice at work, in your locals, and in your communities.
