The president of the Syndicat des employés manuels de la Ville de Québec (CUPE 1638), Alain Bourassa, stood beside Ville de Québec representatives Tuesday afternoon to announce that a portion of waste collection will be brought back in-house effective June 2020 in the borough of Beauport.

“This provides work for 11 manual labourers. But more importantly, it comes as great news for citizens of Beauport, who will have service they’ll be able to count on, as the work will be performed by Ville de Quebec blue-collar workers. Everyone is a winner!” said the president of CUPE 1638.

CUPE is a great defender of public services, and if they are to be reliable, accessible and affordable, local oversight is a must.

“In short, these are sound investments of public funds, and we are glad to see that the Ville de Quebec is on the same wavelength as we are. We also hope to see this kind of openness with respect to other services the City provides,” said Alain Bourassa.
