The Town of Rimouski and the Syndicat des travailleurs et travailleuses cols bleus (CUPE 5275) are proud to take part in the regional effort to fight COVID-19. Manual employees normally assigned to other work will be brought in to bolster laundry operations at the COVID-19 special clinic at the Colisée Financière Sun Life.

The Town of Rimouski received a request to this effect from the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent, and quickly agreed to lend a hand given that it currently has some available employees who are qualified to perform the required duties.

From a union perspective, it is important that every effort be made to fight the pandemic. Its president, Jean Leclerc, and CUPE national representative Yanick Proulx believe this is a laudable initiative. “If we can help, it’s our duty to do so. We provide services to the public based on their needs, and at this time, the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent needs us,” said the union representatives.

For the time being, the time these reinforcements will be needed has not yet been determined. The possibility of additional staff being deployed in the coming days and weeks, depending on demand, has not been ruled out. “We see this action as an expression of regional solidarity, and we are quite proud of it,” added Yanick Proulx.
