The government was proactive in response to concerns expressed by CUPE regarding the Quebec casinos staying open when a pandemic is going on. The government finally announced that the casinos would be closing at midnight tonight.
“We are glad that the government gave consideration to those who either work in or frequent casinos. It’s a wise decision,” said CUPE union representative Jean-Pierre Proulx.
In recent days, there has been a tidal wave of closures aimed at preventing the spread of the virus. Large-scale athletic events, schools, shows, pools, arenas and other gathering places have announced they are locking their doors in an attempt to halt the pandemic.
“Loto-Québec is a Crown Corporation that is conducting itself responsibly,” added Proulx.
