(Statement from the Negotiating Committee of CUPE Local 4297)

OTTAWA Local 4297 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing maintenance and custodial staff at the Conseil des c006fles catholiques de langue frana0069se du Centre Est, has agreed to submit their labour dispute in the negotiation of a first collective agreement to an arbitrator, pending the approval of the local membership on November 25th.

The arbitration process will get under way on January 10th, 2001, with a target date for a first contract of March 30, 2001.

The parties also agreed that normal labour relations will be maintained in the meantime. The joint agreement to seek arbitration marks an end to possible strike action or a lockout by the school board. Services to students and clients will therefore not be interrupted.
