Montreals water is staying public. The city is revamping its water management and pricing policies in the wake of municipal amalgamation. As part of that process, the city councillor responsible for environmental issues has confirmed privatization is not on the agenda. Earlier this year, the mayor had hinted at a possible private sector role in the water system.

And the water privateers suffered a major setback when the mayor of Atlanta canceled Americas biggest water contract. The privatization deal with Suezs North American subsidiary United Water had failed to deliver on many key promises, instead piping filthy brown water to Atlantans.
