OTTAWA – Hospital workers at The Ottawa Hospital will hold information pickets this week to demonstrate against proposed contracting out and privatization by their employer. Pickets will take place Tuesday, March 19th, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Ottawa Hospital’s General site, Wednesday, March 20th, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Civic site, and Thursday, March 21st, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Riverside site. (please see details below)

Ottawa Hospital workers are mobilizing to prevent contracting-out and privatization after their employer invited for-profit contractors to bid on providing Housekeeping, Nutrition & Food, Materials Management and Facility Operations at the hospital. The union warns quality of service and accountability will suffer if the hospital goes ahead with the scheme. The pickets are part of a public campaign to inform the community and invite the public to show their support for public health care services.
