As the economic crisis deepens, CUPE’s pledge to build global solidarity is more important than ever. Canadian workers have been hit hard, but the corruption and excess in corporate boardrooms have been harder on those who are the most vulnerable – our sisters and brothers in the global south. The impact of the economic meltdown is compounded in those countries that have seen their public services privatized to the same corporations that are guilty of creating such misery. In tandem with harmful trade agreements and inaction on climate change, millions of the world’s citizens are facing extreme poverty.
