The first picket line of the Ontario Works employees, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 966, will take place Thursday, May 3, at 1:30 p.m. at Ontario Works headquarters, 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga.
“It is with great regret that we are forced to walk a picket line and will be unable to serve our clients who are the most vulnerable members of our community,” said Mary Jo Falle, president of CUPE Local 966.
“We find it appalling that the Region of Peel would force a predominantly female workforce, who service and provide the vital services the marginalized in our community rely on, out of their jobs and onto a picket line,” added Michel Revelin, vice-president of the local.
