CUPE joins the CLC, other unions and civil society organizations in supporting the creation of a Liberal-NDP coalition government supported by the Bloc Quebecois.

Ask your MP to support a coalition government. You can also show your support by attending on of several rallies held across the country on Thursday, December 4 (December 6 in Toronto).

In the face of the worst global economic crises in decades, Stephen Harper’s Conservative government chose to present an empty fiscal update with far-reaching consequences, while doing nothing to prevent unemployment chaos across the country.

“People right across this country have been waiting patiently for their government to act on their behalf. But once more Stephen Harper has let people down,” said Paul Moist.

Last week’s fiscal update, delivered amidst severe economic uncertainty, should have included concrete measures to protect jobs and pensions, to combat unemployment, and to invest in infrastructure, social programs, and our future.

Instead, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty angered Canadians across the country by delivering partisan and ideological attacks on women, workers and the opposition parties.

Canadians need to trust their government to help them through this economic crisis. A coalition government would provide the leadership necessary to address this economic crisis head on, and to safeguard the well being of workers and their family.

CUPE is inviting its members to join the different rallies happening across the country later this week to support a coalition government.
