Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 4207-Unit 3, representing Instructors in English as a Second Language Services at Brock University, has formally filed charges of Bargaining in Bad Faith against the university. 

The necessary forms were filed at the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) on Wednesday, March 28. The union has not yet heard any response from the university administration.
The union alleges that Brock University has “violated section 17 of the Ontario Labour Relations Act, 1995, in that it has failed to make every reasonable effort to make a collective agreement and/or bargained in bad faith in relation to a first collective agreement.” 

“This strike could have been avoided had the university administration simply lived up to the agreement it made. This strike could be over today if the university would just tell the union that this deal is ratified,” said Dan Crow, President of the local. 

The union is requesting that the Labour Board order the university to ratify the tentative collective agreement that was signed by both parties,” Crow explained.
