The lockout of CUPE 3338, representing staff at the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS), has entered its second week.
For the past two years the local has been working to reach a fair settlement for the 15 full-time and five term/studentCUPE staff, whose work supports SFU students within the SFSS.
Led by newly-elected president Jeff McCann, the SFSS board of directors suddenly broke off mediation and locked out CUPE 3338 members. Since then the board has encouraged students to cross pickets lines, do union work and even sold off “saved wages” as free alcohol and pancakes.
CUPE members and supporters responded with a rally on July 14. Check out pictures of the rally here.
They’ve also recently received a visit from CUPE BC President Barry O’Neill, and released a fact sheet. Check out Five facts to help you understand the lockout of SFSS staff.
