Bill 80 imposes three-year terms on collective agreements for teachers only. CUPE contracts are not affected.
But the legislation extends the power of the Education Relations Commission to include school support workers. The Commission advises the government when strikes threaten the students school year. After prolonged strikes by CUPE Local 4400 in Toronto and CUPE Local 1165 in the Near North, the Tories are looking to the Commission to take political responsibility for ending workers legitimate right to strike.
