Donald Trump has ramped up his attack on workers and our way of life in Canada with aggressive tariffs on Canadian industries and the workers who keep them running. As many as one million jobs in Canada could be lost as a result, which would send shockwaves through the economy that would leave no community and no industry unscathed.

We will all feel the pain of these tariffs. Our collective response must be resolute and determined. Now is the time to stand up like never before to defend our jobs and our communities in Canada.

We need action from the federal government that meets the moment to protect jobs and public services, and make sure no one falls through the cracks as a result of Donald Trump’s trade aggression. The federal government must support workers with stronger income supplements and training supports. We must invest in public manufacturing and public ownership of key industries to Trump-proof our economy. And we must fight like never before to protect public services and expand our social safety net that holds our communities together and makes us proud to be Canadian.

With a federal election underway, we encourage our members to use their power at the ballot box to elect leaders who fight for everyday people, not just investors and corporate lobbyists. For the fights ahead, it’s clear we need to send a strong contingent of New Democrat MPs to Ottawa to defend workers’ rights and public services, and ensure they aren’t sold out to the United States.

Workers built this country. We won’t let Donald Trump tear it down. It’s time to fight back.
