CUPE 5515, which represents inside and outside workers and students employed by the Municipality of Verchères, today signed a new collective agreement, which represents a significant turning point for its members.
“This collective agreement, the first one signed under the auspices of CUPE, required a total overhaul. The bargaining committee worked diligently to improve the employees’ working conditions, and these efforts produced results!” declared CUPE representative Michelle Brideau.
Major gains for the membership
The new agreement calls for a 5% wage increase for 2023, the establishment of a wage structure along with a catch-up averaging out to 16% for 2024. For 2025 to 2028, annual increases range from 2% to 2.5% and include Consumer Price Index protection. There is a further increase of 2% in 2029.
As for working conditions, members will see notable improvements in vacation, social and paid floating leave, premiums, clothing and equipment, as well as leave to tend to union business.
