CUPE has received a request for political support from its sister unions in South Africa. Public sector trade unions in South Africa called a general strike on 1 June following a break down in negotiations with the government. CUPE has responded. Individual members and leaders are also asked to show your solidarity with public sector workers in South Africa .
CUPE sent out our own letters of support to The Coalition of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and another to the South African Municipal Worker’s Union (SAMWU), our sister organization and partner of the CUPE National Global Justice Fund.
