A labour disruption has been averted in the Township of Black River-Matheson, after members of CUPE 1490 and their employer agreed to take outstanding disputes to binding arbitration.
The agreement to go to binding arbitration follows several months of negotiation, and a final offer vote, supervised by the Ministry of Labour and rejected overwhelmingly by the union mid-October. In 2014, the workers were locked out by the Township for seven weeks.
Local 1490 represents 16 inside and outside workers in Black River-Matheson.
