Workers at Community Living agencies in Windsor and Brant in southwestern Ontario have overwhelmingly rejected employer-imposed “final offer” votes, sending a clear message to employers across Ontario’s social services sector that low-wage proposals will not be accepted.

CUPE 2087 members who work for the Village of Montrose in southern BC have voted in favour of a new collective agreement, concluding this round of negotiations.

Yesterday, CUPE’s lead bargaining table, which represents long-term care workers across the province and negotiates the economic pattern for the sector, has reached an impasse.

With their final day of conciliation scheduled for March 24, CUPE long-term care workers held 20 information pickets across Nova Scotia to spread awareness about their bargaining priorities and the chances of an upcoming province-wide strike in the sector.

CUPE 2 is raising concerns about the Toronto Transit Commission, TTC’s, decision to file for conciliation in ongoing collective bargaining with the union representing approximately 700 electrical, signal, and communications workers.

Glen Haven Manor long-term care workers, represented by CUPE 2330, have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike mandate, with 100% of ballots casted voting in favour. Like their fellow CUPE 2330 bargaining units—Maritime Odd Fellows and Valley View Villa—, they are calling for improved wages and recruitment and retention initiatives.

Long-term care workers from Valley View Villa in Nova Scotia, represented by CUPE 2330, have held strike votes, with 100% of those who voted casting ballots in favour of a strike mandate. These workers join thousands of other CUPE long-term care workers who have voted overwhelmingly to strike in the past few months.

Workers from Harbourstone Enhanced Care, represented by CUPE 1183, have voted 87% in favour of a strike mandate, making them the 39th CUPE long-term care home to take this action.

​CUPE 5910, representing Société de transport de l’Outaouais, STO, bus drivers, is sending a message on their behalf: bus drivers have never been more worried about the future of public transit in Gatineau. Members are referring to the announced cuts of $205 million over five years, which threaten the Rapibus airport extension, the tramway to Ottawa and the acquisition of 20 electric buses.
