Rosa Pavanelli, from the Italian affiliate FP- CGIL, was elected by 72 percent of the membership to assume the position as Public Services International’s (PSI) General Secretary.
In thanking the delegates to the World Congress in Durban, South Africa, Sister Pavanelli said, ” I promise we will be organizing, organizing, organizing and fighting for a fair society for all citizens.”
Pavanelli replaces Peter Waldorff of Denmark who was elected in 2007 at the PSI World Congress in Vienna.
CUPE National President Paul Moist said, “CUPE looks forward to working with Rosa Pavanelli as she leads public sector workers in fighting for public services globally, fighting austerity with a citizens’ agenda, and ultimately building a better world.” Brother Moist expressed thanks to Brother Waldorff for his five years at the helm of PSI.
