Statement from CUPE National President Paul Moist

CUPE is a strong advocate for workers rights, for equality rights, and social justice. We believe that all members of society deserve equal opportunities and fair compensation for their work. As a democratic organization, we embrace the voice of our membership, and work hard to ensure all members have equal opportunity to be heard.

We’re proud of our work. But we recognize that none of it would be possible were it not for the brave men and women who gave their lives in defence of a country and a way of life that enables us to achieve our collective goals.

Their sacrifice is of the highest order. These soldiers understood the value of freedom and democracy when they laid their lives down to defend it. Honouring them on Remembrance Day is a small gesture compared to their incredible dedication. CUPE is proud to honour them on this important day, and every day, as we exercise our democratic rights they fought so diligently to defend.

All Canadians owe a great debt to our veterans, one that cannot truly be fully repaid. We can, however, ensure veterans who have been injured or disabled while defending this country have a financially secure future when they return to civilian life and to ensure that voice of veterans is strengthened and valued in our society.

Lest we forget.
