In the aftermath of recent events that led to the tragic deaths of two firefighter colleagues with the municipal fire department of Saint-Urbain-de-Charlevoix, members of the union representing Quebec firefighters (SPQ-SCFP) send their sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of firefighters Christopher Lavoie and Régis Lavoie.

The SPQ-SCFP thanks all Quebec firefighters and underscores their role in ensuring the safety of residents of their communities, even when it puts their own safety at risk.

“The Syndicat des pompiers et pompières du Québec will be following up with the appropriate authorities to ensure part-time firefighters across the province have access to the same training and skills maintenance as full-time firefighters,” said Stéphane Chartrand, president of the SPQ.

“On behalf of CUPE, I send my deepest sympathy to the friends and families of both firefighters who died while protecting the lives of their fellow citizens. As trade unionists, we will continue working every day to strengthen workplace health and safety for Quebec’s public services,” added Patrick Gloutney, president of CUPE Quebec.
