In November, I attended a meeting of the Public Sector Working Group of Public Services International (PSI). The meeting focused on how to make the global campaign for quality public services (adopted at the PSI Congress in Ottawa in September) a reality on the ground for PSIs 20 million members around the world. A formidable task!
Over the past week, two CUPE representatives have been participating as members of the PSI mission in Colombia, to mark December 10, the PSI Day of Action on Colombia. In the past 5 years, 790 trade unionists have been killed in Colombia, 184 in 2001 alone. Our brothers and sisters in Colombia need our support. Many of those killed have been targeted for fighting for basic trade union rights or speaking out against privatization of public services.
