WINNIPEG – Oyate Tipi Cumini Yape’s 6th annual Fresh Start Furniture Drive is getting a boost from some members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) this Saturday.

What: Oyate Tipi Cumini Yape’s 6th Annual ‘Fresh Start’ Furniture Drive

When: Saturday, May 29th, from 10 am −12 noon

Where: The Golf Dome, 1205 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg

The Mount Carmel Clinic employees, members of CUPE Local 2343 and the RESPECT Campaign Team, are helping the non-profit organization by promoting and supporting the Oyate furniture drive. What’s more, the members have issued a challenge to other unions.

All of the ‘gently-used’ furniture that Oyate collects on Saturday will be used to help women rebuild a home for their children,” said CUPE 2343 President Kathy Macdonald.  “Our members know how important this drive is to Oyate’s goal of ending violence against women.  It’s an issue of respect that we believe all workers can identify with and so we’re issuing a challenge to all union members:  look around, see what furniture you’re not using and bring it to the Saturday drive. Or, just come out and join the other volunteers!”
