CUPE 255 municipal workers in Kincardine, Ontario donate $12,000 to local charities

The municipal workers of Bruce, Grey & Wellington counties have donated $12,000 to three local non-profit organizations over the past month as part of a longstanding tradition of giving back to their communities.

CUPE 255 donated $5,200 to South Grey Bruce Youth Literacy Council, $5,200 to WES for Youth Online, and $1,600 to Hayden’s Hope Foundation.

“CUPE 255 members are committed to our communities. We strive to improve lives of our fellow residents not just through the services we provide but also by supporting the efforts of organizations that improve quality of life for the most vulnerable,” said Casey Hillier, president of CUPE 255.

Over the past 12 years, CUPE 255 has given $120,000 to local charities that improve life for marginalized residents.

The charitable work of the CUPE local is based on the democratic decision of the union’s members who select the organizations to support in their general membership meetings.

CUPE 255 represents approximately 160 workers at Bruce Telecom, Bruce County Highways, and the municipalities of Arran-EIdersIie, Wellington North and the Town of Hanover.
