The Syndicat des pompiers et pompières du Québec (SPQ-CUPE) was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a colleague with station 64 of the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) (Montreal fire department).
“We wish to offer our deepest condolences to the family of firefighter Pierre Lacroix (64-3). Our thoughts are also with the extended family of the SIM, and particularly with the brothers and sisters in station 64. We have been extremely moved by this tragedy that has affected us all. Please accept our deeply felt friendship and affection,” declared Max Charrette-Vendette, a spokesman for SPQ-CUPE, who is also a firefighter in Boisbriand and president of CUPE Local 7104.
Pierre Lacroix died tragically on Sunday night while participating in a rescue mission on the St. Lawrence River. He was nearing retirement.
“The large CUPE family also adds its voice to everyone who has offered their deepest condolences to the family of Pierre Lacroix. We are never supposed to lose our life at work,” added Patrick Gloutney, president of CUPE Quebec.
