CUPE has joined forces with the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT), the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) to launch the Education for All campaign.
Representing more than one million students and workers, the coalition is putting forth a vision of a more affordable, accessible, high quality, and publicly-funded post-secondary education (PSE) system.
Recently, representatives from each organization came together virtually to discuss many of the longstanding issues in post-secondary education, including underfunding, corporatization, precarious work, student debt, and systemic barriers. These problems and others, like mental health, have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis.
Karen Ranalletta, President of CUPE 2950 and member of the CUPE National Post-Secondary Task Force, noted that the pandemic has also highlighted the importance of every single worker on campus in providing a safe, high quality education.
