The nine employees of the Municipality of Thurso, in the Outaouais, have a new collective agreement.

The members voted unanimously for the tentative agreement reached by the parties last November 30. The current contract expires next December 31.

The new five-year contract falls for wage hikes of 1.75% for the first two years and 2% for each of the last three. This represents a sizeable increase for the employees given the current context and the temporary closure of the cellulose plant, which is at the heart of the town’s economy.

The union is very satisfied with how negotiations went, especially since it only took 1½ days of meetings to reach an agreement,” said CUPE representative Guy Gosselin.
