SYDNEY, NS – The union representing a Cape Breton-Victoria school bus driver who was caught in the middle of a controversy over a student’s right to ride the bus says the school board has an obligation to clarify who actually made the decision.
CUPE Local 5050 says in order for this matter to be resolved and the employee’s good name to be restored the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board (CBVRSB) must come forward with the information.
Local 5050 President Todd MacPherson says, “Anyone who works for this board knows that the only way a child can be refused entry to a school bus is if a directive is given from the board itself.
“Not only was this bus driver a long-term employee, he had an immaculate work record. He says he had nothing to do with the decision and our union is standing behind his version of events.”
Says MacPherson, “This employee deserves to have his good name cleared and CUPE will not consider this matter resolved until he does.”
