Toronto Hydro workers have overwhelmingly approved a new contract that provides a big boost in wages and benefits.
The members of CUPE Local One accepted a three-year deal that provides a three per cent wage increase in each year, plus a COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) in the second and third years. As well, they won a 95 per cent top up on maternity benefits for 52 weeks, improved retirement benefits and the elimination of lifetime caps for dental and medical benefits.
“This is a watershed agreement for CUPE Local One and Toronto Hydro,” said local president Bruno Silano. “It is the first time in our almost 90 year history that we have arrived at a collective agreement before the current one expires. We are very pleased to have improved retirement, maternity, and survivor benefits for our members and the wage increases make our members among the highest paid municipal workers in the province
