I am writing to express my outrage at the Fort McMurray Airport Authority’s decision to layoff the hardworking custodial staff and privatize custodial operations
When visitors arrive in Fort McMurray, our airport is one of the first places they see. The current workers have shown immense pride and personal care in looking after our airport. It’s critical to continue using the best people available to maintain this important service.
Unfortunately, poor management, failure to purchase necessary supplies, and a poorly considered hiring freeze have resulted in overtime costs and that could have been avoided.
All workers deserve to earn a living wage with a secure job. The Airport Authority is attempting to drive down wages and undermine unions while hiding from their own mismanagement.
I call upon you as our representative to use your influence to put a stop to this decision to fire the good workers of the Fort McMurray Airport employee team.
