Literacy and Essential skills

All workers have the right to access the training they need, in particular in the field of literacy and basic education.

CUPE knows that literacy and basic education not only improve reading or writing, but also provide tools for understanding our world and improve social participation.

CUPE is a staunch advocate of the right of workers to learn and reach their full potential. Thus, it coordinates a literacy and basic education program.

Book on literacy and the labour movement

Transformations is a book on literacy and the labour movement. It was published in 2014, but still remains highly relevant today. Among testimonials and other things, it contains a very informative section on the history of the presence of literacy and education in unions, going as far back as to the 19th century.
