CUPE National President Paul Moist has written to Prime Minister Steven Harper demanding federal action on the False Creek Urgent Care Centre in Vancouver and other for-profit clinics that are allowing queue jumping. Patients who need urgent care for broken bones, lacerations and other medical emergencies should not have their wallets checked at the door. Private clinics are looking for loopholes in legislation while Harper’s government tells us to “take a deep breath” and just accept that privatization is rampant. We take equal access to health care seriously, and we demand that our federal government do the same.
