Federal Justice Minister Irwin Cotler announced legislation this week that would entrench equal marriage for lesbian and gay couples, while lobbying for and against the principal of equal marriage heated up.
Observers say the vote is too close to call, with the government promising a free vote. The group Canadians for Equal Marriage is reporting that there are still enough undecided members of Parliament to affect the outcome.
“The anti-gay lobby is using fear tactics to pressure MPs to vote against the legislation,” said CUPE National President Paul Moist and National Secretary-Treasurer Claude Généreux in a letter to locals.
