Dear Sisters and Brothers:

We are a month away from the 2010 CUPE National Health Care Sector Meeting.  Spaces are filling up quickly so if you are planning to attend, please register as soon as possible. The meeting will take place from October 20 - 22, 2010 at the Victoria Conference Centre in Victoria, British Columbia.

This meeting is a great chance for member activists, elected leaders, and staff from every region in the country to gather together to learn from each other, pick up new information and strategies, and build our strength as a union and as champions of Medicare. Please find attached the draft agenda.

Keynote speakers, panels and plenary sessions, workshops and a fabulous reception are all in the works to make our time together interesting, fruitful and fun! You can register on-line to confirm your space, while onsite registration to pick up your badges will begin on Tuesday, October 19, from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Victoria Conference Centre. Our meeting will conclude at noon on Friday, October 22, 2010.

CUPE Health Care members work very hard to ensure the health of people in communities across Canada. We have an opportunity to make healthy choices and “green” our national meeting. Every gathering of people consumes energy, produces waste and emits greenhouse gases.  We commit to reducing the environmental impacts of our event, and to ensuring the smallest possible footprint on the natural environment.

Some environmentally friendly steps:

  • Register on-line. You will receive an email confirmation.
  • All correspondence and information leading up to the meeting will be provided by email where possible. Please ensure that we have an email address for you and your local.  Advise us if email is not possible and we will ensure alternative communication.
  • Bring your own pen and paper (recycled and post-consumer waste if possible).
  • Bring your own reusable water bottles and coffee mugs.
  • Recycle all paper and other materials where possible.
  • Turn off all electronic devices (overhead projectors, laptops, computer projectors, etc.) when not in use.

More green ideas will be provided later and all suggestions are welcome!

Equity-seeking members are encouraged to attend this meeting since all voices are important to a successful meeting. Receive further information by contacting Suzanne Chamseddine at schamseddine@cupe.ca or 613-237-1590 ext. 281; or Selena Lashley at slashley@cupe.ca or 613-237-1590 ext 282.

Please note that members are registered on a first-come, first-served basis, under provincial caps.  Once a provincial cap is reached, registration is closed for that province, though members can go on a wait list in case there are cancellations.

There is no registration fee. Locals are responsible for the costs of their delegates’ leaves of absence, travel, accommodation, and other related costs. The meeting will be conducted in both official languages.

Childcare on-site is available during meeting hours and off-site child care subsidy is offered.  Application forms, as well as information on travel and accommodation, can be found in the on-line registration kit.
