CUPE members across Canada working in the Language Instruction for Newcomers (LINC) programs are at risk of losing their jobs.

The LINC program is a vital language learning program for recent immigrants to Canada, providing free and accessible language classes and childminding services for its students.

The programs are being defunded by the federal government by 20 to 30 percent. In Ontario alone, 70 to 75 educators and childminders will lose their jobs, some as early as the end of March.

For over 30 years, LINC programs have provided valuable language training programs and settlement services to tens of thousands of recent immigrants. Over 50,000 people use these supports every year.
