The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) confirmed yesterday that CUPE will now be representing the 750 drivers and support employees of the Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO). CUPE represents the most land transportation employees in the province.
“We received official certification from the CIRB last night. We’re really happy to be able to represent these new members,” said Denis Bolduc, president of CUPE-Québec.
“The STO employees clearly expressed in large numbers their willingness to change unions. Close to 90% of the members gave their support to CUPE,” explained Guy Gosselin, president of the local union. “Now, we’re getting down to work!”
This is the second major group from the Outaouais to join CUPE recently, following the City of Gatineau white-collar workers. “CUPE is an undeniable force in the Outaouais,” said Denis Bolduc.
