“I spent many years working in international development as a photographer. I’ve worked for the United Nations High Commission for refugees in Guatemala and on income development in Nepal.  My objective is to use photography as a tool for social change” explained Josh Berson in a recent conversation about why he is donating over $7,000 to CUPE’s Global Justice Fund.

Berson presented a cheque for $7,200 to Paul Moist, CUPE national president and Charles Fleury, CUPE national secretary-treasurer during their visit to Vancouver in February.  The money was raised through the sale of photos at the most recent CUPE National Convention at which Berson provided photography services for the union.  Berson has been a volunteer with Co Development Canada for 20 years, and has been on the board of directors for six years.

“For me the big inspiration is that the money that goes to the Global Justice Fund does such amazing work,” said Berson.  “I’ve been able to visit some of the projects and the fund is having a major impact on people’s lives. It is really an amazing thing that CUPE does – it’s a very profound thing – it has very profound impact on many people’s lives.”

Berson also mentioned that Co Development Canada is organizing a delegation going to Honduras at the end of February 2014 to, among other things, visit several long standing projects that the Global Justice Fund supports. There are still some spots available for this solidarity tour. Those interested are encouraged to contact Co Development Canada.
