With the Romanow Commission reporting at the end of November, health care will dominate the political agenda this fall and winter, and CUPE will play a leading role in the debate and the movement against private health care.

CUPE’s new Health Care Issues Committee has put forward a plan of action to save and expand Medicare and to stop health care privatization whenever and wherever it occurs.

Over the next few months, CUPE will be setting up and training provincial campaign committees, distributing information to locals, organizing workplace canvasses, and mobilizing members – in every sector – to protect public health care.

We will be working with other CLC affiliates and allies like the Council of Canadians. A key event will be the People’s Summit on health care in Ottawa February 7-9, 2003.

CUPE’s health care workers will gather on February 6 for a one-day meeting prior to the People’s Summit. More information on these important events will be sent out to all locals very soon.
