Knowledge is power, and CUPE is building worker power through an ambitious education program. Union education gives workers the tools to defend their rights and challenge the world around them both locally and globally. Building power is a blueprint to expand CUPE’s education program to meet our members’ changing and diverse needs. Opening the door to more CUPE members will ensure education builds as many CUPE activists as possible – activists who better reflect the great diversity of our membership.

Building power commits to a national leadership program developing a new generation of CUPE leaders, especially young workers. The policy paper puts literacy at the top of the agenda for union action. Greater access and inclusion will also come from internet-based education. Targeted action to win paid education leave is another key priority, with the goal of setting up successful models of employer-financed, worker-controlled education funds.
